A custom designed ring to suit the perfectly planned proposal.
When Hayden found his perfect match, he knew he needed the perfect engagement ring. Which is why he sought the help of our diamond experts at Matthews Jewellers (Charlestown) to help custom design Shanelle’s dream ring.
Hunter Valley couple, Hayden and Shanelle met in 2010 and have been dating for almost six years. Hayden had decided that he wanted to design the ring himself.
"Hayden had been back and forth with Matthews Jewellers for a couple of months, coming up with the perfect design. I had absolutely no clue!” Shanelle said.
The Matthews Jewellers team (in particular, Allison) worked with Hayden to help him make decisions around the type of diamonds, their cut, clarity and colour and the style. The final choice was a ring beautifully set in platinum and featuring 90 small diamonds surrounding a 0.70pt solitaire diamond.
Upon collecting the custom design ring from Matthews Jewellers, Hayden organised a trip to Melbourne under the guise of viewing a few art exhibitions. But, little did Shanelle know, Hayden had other plans for their trip.
“After walking an extra kilometre more than necessary and going the wrong way, we began walking towards a book shop called, ‘The Paperback Books’.”
“Hayden asked if there was anything that I wanted to take a closer look at. At first glance I thought not, but then a book caught my eye.”
“Before I got the chance to show him what book I was looking at, he twirls me around, gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him!”
“In complete shock and awe, it took a few moments to sink in before the tears started to tremble down my face out of pure happiness. I squealed ‘YES!’ and Hayden didn’t even have time to put the ring on my finger before I made him get up off his knee and squeezed him as tight as ever.”
Luckily, Hayden organised a photographer to follow them around Melbourne, capturing photos that the couple will treasure for a lifetime.
“As Hayden put the ring on, he mentioned that there was a lovely photographer, Anna, who had been hiding in a telephone box for an hour capturing every moment.”
“I’m just completely overwhelmed and surprised with how well Hayden managed to pull off this amazingly perfect proposal,” Shanelle concluded.
Shanelle and Hayden met when they were just 15 years old, through their first job. They have now just bought their first house and are hoping to get married on Shanelle’s grandparent’s acreage in 2020.
