Lab Grown vs Natural Diamonds — Which is Right for You?
The most common question we hear. Both are real diamonds. Both are beautiful. The difference comes down to two things: origin and price.
A lab grown diamond is created in a controlled environment using advanced technology that replicates the conditions under which natural diamonds form. The result is a stone that is chemically and physically identical to a mined diamond at a significantly lower price for an equivalent size and quality. Most of our customers who choose lab grown do so because it lets them maximise their budget without compromising on the ring they want.
A natural diamond is formed deep within the earth over billions of years and carries with it a geological story that cannot be replicated. Every diamond engagement ring at Matthews Jewellers whether lab grown or natural is independently certified by either the IGI (International Gemological Institute) or GIA (Gemological Institute of America), or HRD. These are three of the most respected diamond grading bodies in the world. Your certificate confirms your stone's cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight, so you can buy with complete confidence.
