At Matthews Jewellers, we’re often entrusted with pieces that carry deep emotional significance — and Vicki’s remodel was no exception.
She came to us with a sentimental heirloom: her father’s solid opal tie pin. While the piece held a lifetime of memories, it no longer suited her style or felt wearable. But the story it carried was too special to leave sitting in a drawer.
Vicki’s vision was clear — to create something beautiful and wearable, while preserving the legacy of her dad.
We began by carefully removing the ornate decorative bezel that surrounded the opal. Once the original pin was detached, Vicki selected a breathtaking Australian South Sea pearl to pair with the opal, creating a soft yet striking contrast between the two gemstones. The finishing touch was an enhancer, allowing the new pendant to be worn with her pearl strand or favourite chains.
The result? A timeless, elegant piece that not only complements her collection, but honours her father in the most meaningful way.
Vicki was deeply moved by the transformation. What was once a formal and unworn tie pin has become a beautiful reminder of her dad — something she can carry with her each day.
