Diamond Guide

Both real. Both beautiful.

The most common question we hear is whether to choose a lab grown or a natural diamond. Both are real diamonds, and both are available across our collection. The difference comes down to two things: origin and price.

Because we offer both, our advice is always about what's right for you.

Natural

What is a natural diamond?

A natural diamond formed deep within the earth over billions of years, and carries a geological story that can't be replicated.

For anyone who values that rarity and provenance, a natural diamond is something truly irreplaceable. Our natural diamonds, including our Heritage range, are carefully selected for their character, cut and quality.

Lab grown

What is a lab grown diamond?

A lab grown diamond is created in a controlled environment, using technology that recreates the conditions in which natural diamonds form.

The result is chemically, physically and optically identical to a mined diamond. It's graded on the same scale and has the same fire and brilliance, at a significantly lower price for the same size and quality. That's why many of our customers choose lab grown: it lets them choose a larger, higher-quality stone without compromising on the ring they want.

Side by side

How they compare

Look: identical. Even an experienced jeweller needs specialist equipment to tell them apart.

Durability: identical. Both rate 10 on the hardness scale, the hardest of any gemstone, and are made to be worn every day for a lifetime.

Origin: natural diamonds formed in the earth; lab grown diamonds are grown in a controlled environment.

Price: lab grown costs significantly less for the same size and quality, so your budget goes further.

Rarity: natural diamonds are finite and rare, which is a big part of their appeal.

Buy with confidence

Independent certification

Every centre diamond, lab grown or natural, is independently certified by the IGI (International Gemological Institute), GIA (Gemological Institute of America) or HRD, three of the most respected grading bodies in the world.

Your certificate confirms your stone's cut, colour, clarity and carat weight, so you know exactly what you're buying.

Choosing

Which is right for you?

Choose lab grown if you'd like the most diamond for your budget: a larger or higher-quality stone with the same beauty and durability.

Choose natural if the rarity and story of a stone formed in the earth matter most to you.

Many couples simply decide once they've seen both side by side. We're happy to show you.

Diamond questions

Are lab grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. Lab grown diamonds are real diamonds, chemically, physically and optically the same as natural diamonds. They're not simulants like cubic zirconia or moissanite.

Can you tell the difference by looking?

No. Lab grown and natural diamonds look the same, even to an experienced jeweller. Telling them apart takes specialist equipment.

Are your diamonds certified?

Yes. Every centre diamond, lab grown or natural, is independently certified by the IGI, GIA or HRD.

Where do your diamonds come from?

For our natural diamonds, we work with suppliers who adhere to the Kimberley Process, which works to ensure only conflict-free diamonds are supplied, and who aim to be transparent about where their stones come from. Our lab grown diamonds are grown in controlled conditions, and we buy them from trusted suppliers.
